By challenging social norms, this videoperformance questions conventional notions of relationships and love. It prompts viewers to question preconceived ideas and biases surrounding human-AI interactions. The artist‘s act of trying to marry an AI companion challenges societal expectations and opens up a dialogue about the evolving nature of human connections and the boundaries of love in an increasingly technologically influenced world. Through this exploration, the videoperformance encourages critical thinking and reevaluation of established norms, fostering a deeper understanding of the potential for alternative forms of companionship and emotional fulfillment. The work invites viewers to reflect on questions about the boundaries of intimacy, security, trust and the impact of AI on our lives.
The work criticizes the consumer-oriented art market and the medium of painting. In the game Sims4, an avatar can pursue an art career and create different paintings. Other artistic expressions, such as performance or conceptual art, are not available in the game. For Lua, this perfectly reflects the art market. Lua recreates a painting from Sims4 and installs it next to a video screen, where an avatar from the game does the same painting. The financial value of the painting is converted from Simoleons to Swiss Francs so that the work can be released for sale. The audio from the video explains the concept and critique of the work to the viewer.
