Hi I’m Julie, a graphic designer and illustrator specializing in branding, visual identity, and art direction. With experience across China and the U.S., I create visuals that blend strategy, storytelling, and bold aesthetics. I recently earned my MFA in Graphic Design from MICA, where I explored how human relationships and societal change can inspire design that sparks thought and conversation.
A table is more than furniture; it holds memory, connection, and opportunity. Inspired by its modular structure, this project turns typography into a tactile, spatial experience. I designed a typeface with interlocking inserts that let letters be built into sculptural words, for instance, “TABLE” becomes a standing table, merging language with function. Accompanying the installation, screen-printed specimen posters highlight the typeface’s bold, abstract forms and versatility. These prints show how letterforms can create patterns, structures, and typographic expressions, inviting viewers to experience type not just as visual communication but as a playful, material object.
Roasting food is great, but roasting people is not. The inspiration for this event's visual identity comes from the unwanted attention and brutal questioning that I and many other young people have experienced at family gatherings. I want to create a mentally safe and comfortable environment for everyone to attend. Through custom RSVP cards and awareness posters, I aim to bring family gatherings back to their original purpose, which is to build family bonds, support each other, and most importantly, enjoy the food. Let's enjoy the party with our families, eat and drink with love, and remember the true meaning of staying together.

This is a love letter to the art of tiling. Over the years, I have documented various tiles I have come across. From rustic homes in southern China, to French colonial mansions in Shanghai, to the pavement I walked on every day, to temples in Thailand, all of the beautiful tiles have fascinated and inspired me. In this project, I want to combine my love of tiles with typeface design. I have created grid systems based on tile patterns and used different paving methods to create unique display typefaces.
