About
Hi I’m Julie, a graphic designer and illustrator specializing in branding, visual identity, and art direction. With experience across China and the U.S., I create visuals that blend strategy, storytelling, and bold aesthetics. I recently earned my MFA in Graphic Design from MICA, where I explored how human relationships and societal change can inspire design that sparks thought and conversation.
A table is more than furniture; it holds memory, connection, and opportunity. Inspired by its modular structure, this project turns typography into a tactile, spatial experience. I designed a typeface with interlocking inserts that let letters be built into sculptural words, for instance, “TABLE” becomes a standing table, merging language with function. Accompanying the installation, screen-printed specimen posters highlight the typeface’s bold, abstract forms and versatility. These prints show how letterforms can create patterns, structures, and typographic expressions, inviting viewers to experience type not just as visual communication but as a playful, material object.
