This is a collection rich in tradition, culture, nostalgia, and unconditional mother's love received. The inspiration is someone closest to my heart, my mother, and her favorite bird, the majestic peacock. Peacocks are meant to bring good luck and wealth in Indian Culture. My mother had these birds embroidered on her wedding dress which was locked up in a tiny storage room in my childhood home in India for 35 years. It got a breath of fresh air for the first time for this collection. The dress is deconstructed and reconstructed to make a majestic look for the runway with 5 other looks in traditional fabrics sourced and dyed in North India. This collection is bringing a wedding to the show. Welcome to the world of everything delicate, romantic, and dreamy. Inspired by the Rococo art period and the pretty Carmine Bee-eater bird, this project personifies the delicacy of femininity. The bright color pallet screams the playfulness of the art period and the natural beauty of the bird. The whimsical inspiration comes to life in this collection with silhouettes inspired by the birds and the not-so-noticeable aspects in the paintings. The softness of the silhouettes defines the softness found in the core of a woman. Her unconditional and unapologetic love comes out to take the front seat in the theatrical performance of romance.
How sustainable is sustainable? My project, "Solid Core", can answer that for you. The inspiration comes from my family’s rice factory in India with the tagline "Evolving Responsibly". Production from sourcing the raw materials to the packaging is done by keeping sustainability and the environment in mind. Steam is used instead of coal in production and the leftover rice husk and oil are sent to paper and oil factories for utilization. I got my silhouettes from the interior and exterior of the facility and the machinery used in it. My designs speak of utility and comfort with a classy and chic edge. The fabrics sourced were deadstock natural fiber fabrics such as linen, jute, and OKEO Tex cotton.
