About

In a humble family, I discovered my passion for textile art. Using sustainability as my guiding principle, I re purposed discarded materials to stitch narratives of identity and memory. Through both teaching and creating, I breathe new life into forgotten treasures, inviting others to join me on a journey of exploration through tradition and contemporary expression. Delving into themes of identity and memory, my work encourages viewers to embark on their own voyage of discovery.

I come from a family where making and fixing things is a way of life. My father, despite battling cancer and Alzheimer's, holds onto fragments of his past, memories that form the foundation of our connection. My work is a tribute to this journey of 'Lost and Found', weaving together the true essence of our shared experiences. It's deeply personal, rooted in the narratives of my ancestors, Ammi and Abo, who braved their way from India, carrying tales of resilience and loss. Among their legacies, I discovered treasures—a hand-embroidered relic, fragments of our old house, postcards, and letters—all whispering of our collective strength. My work is a culmination of small-sized art books inspired by my familial legacy, the symbolism of sunflowers, my mother's poetry, and old letters, all created using natural dyes and repurposed fabrics. In contrast, my installations take on a larger scale, spanning across panels that engage in a dialogue between my mother, still grappling with my father's memory loss at the age of 85, and the reflections of our shared past, intricately depicted through my drawings. Identity and memory are recurring themes in my work, inviting viewers to explore their own narratives and cultural heritage. Each motif and pattern carry with it a whisper of history, inviting viewers to delve into a rich tapestry of stories. Through a symbiotic relationship between materials and imagination, I strive to evoke emotions, provoke thoughts, and spark dialogue. Each piece has their own story and for me each front piece as important as from back embroidery piece ,as like our identity . With natural dyes and intricate stitching, I breathe new life into these heirlooms, crafting art that speaks volumes about our origins and identity. My passion lies in intertwining these fabrics with stories, blending old traditions with new perspectives to foster unity through creativity. Through exhibitions and collaborative projects, I strive to ignite conversations that honor our cultural roots and inspire solidarity. In my art, I extend an invitation for others to journey alongside me, where history converges with imagination, and every thread tells a tale of resilience and connection. Beyond creation, I am a storyteller and curator, delving into shared experiences and fostering community engagement. Empowering individuals to explore their own narratives and celebrate their cultural heritage is at the heart of my mission. Art, for me, is a powerful tool for social change, capable of bridging divides and nurturing inclusive. My exhibitions are not merely displays but immersive experiences, designed to provoke emotions and encourage connections. Each showcase is carefully curated to evoke a sense of belonging, inviting viewers to dive into the rich tapestry of stories woven into every stitch.
