About

My name is Yasmin Elad. I am a fourth year fashion design student at Shenkar. I’ve lived most of my life in a seaside city called Ashdod.

I’ve always had a love for fashion and design, and have used sketching and drawing as a creative outlet for as long as I can remember.

My main inspiration comes from events in my daily life, and several personal interests, such as: musical subgenres and subcultures, historical garments, and Japanese pop culture and fashion.

My main focus when creating a collection is translating my inner thought process into a cohesive narrative, that contains an emphasis on creating innovative cuts and silhouettes.

After everything that makes up this reality fades away, what will remain at the point past which nothing can exist? When I imagine pushing my subjective reality to its logical conclusion, I arrive at the singularity. As every component of reality is driven to its extreme, it deteriorates into abstract concepts beyond human comprehension. The point where information can no longer escape is the black hole; the breakdown of reality is the singularity of the psyche. This collection represents the stages and forms of said breakdown. It pushes base garments into a different point of existence – outside of “objective” reality. The pieces are created using various textile manipulation techniques, including textured nylon, hand painted leather, and thread embroidery. These techniques provide the garments with textures that portray the chaos and deconstruction I envision at the brink of sanity.
