Haptic Bloom explores how the hands of Chinese artisans carry the traces of labour, memory and traditional craftsmanship, transforming these bodily marks into contemporary garment structures and material languages. Houndstooth and sequins form the core visual and material language of the project. I reinterpret houndstooth as a system of repeated units, connecting its sense of order and rhythm with the repetitive actions of handcraft labour. The pattern is reconstructed through individual sequin components, each of which is cut, arranged, and hand-sewn onto the surface. In this process, sequins are no longer used merely as decorative elements; they become material carriers of time, labour, and bodily memory.

In 2023, on my second trip to Tibet, I knew Tenzin in Gyirong town in the southern foothills of the Himalayas, where Tibet meets Nepal. She is the first transgender Buddhist in the Himalayan Tibetan region to disclose his transgender identity and has been accepted by his family and the local social environment. Tenzin presents a sharp contradiction between individual identity and the sociocultural environment, and this is in fact a concrete manifestation of the conflict of many cultures and consciousnesses in the current society.
