[mmii] are a duo based in London and are interested in media art at the intersection of the digital and physical worlds. As a collective, Junghyun Kim and Sami Malla utilise emerging tools like virtual reality, game engines and real-time interactive content to express personal and communal experiences at this boundary between technology and humanity. They have showcased their work at Outernet Now Building and exhibited at Peckham Digital 2024. Sami Malla is an observant Digital Designer adept at creating moments of meaning through investigative explorations. She finds significance in utilising emerging storytelling tools like 3D engines and VR to reflect and share important stories. With a background in Graphic Design, Sami has a keen eye for detail and transforming abstract concepts into tangible outputs. Delving into meaningful experiences, she expands on the significance of everyday rituals and evocative objects. Junghyun Kim, also known as Zoey Kim, is a media artist based in South Korea and London. She creates immersive experiences using various mediums and technologies, exploring the interaction between technology, humanity, and the environment. Kim's work blurs the boundaries between physical space and the digital world, aiming to raise awareness and facilitate social dialogue and change. Her pieces encourage audience participation and offer new perspectives and experiences.
[Co:beliefs] is an interactive digital installation that delves into the intriguing world of superstitions; exploring their role in fostering cultural cohesion, and examining the persistence and relevance of superstitious thinking in modern society. Our journey began with a simple question: "Why do people still believe in superstitions?" This question piqued our curiosity and led us to delve into the narratives of superstitious thinking that exist today. This digital immersion offers an opportunity for meaningful interaction among individuals and communities with similar beliefs and presents a fresh perspective on how superstitions are formed; expounding on the emotions people harbour in the digital realm, especially those related to uncertain futures.
