Contemporary painter raised in Hong Kong and based in the UK creating vibrant and colourful paintings that encapsulate the beauty and femininity of flowers. Through meticulous and expressive use of colour, my work brings to life the delicate and intricate details of blooms, celebrating their natural elegance and allure.
My practice as a contemporary artist explores ideas of flowers and femininity through abstract and energetic paintings. Within my work, I aim to encapsulate the energy and life of flowers as they act as a vehicle to construct images that oscillate between realism and abstraction. My paintings strive to captivate the viewer and evoke feelings of radiance, joy, and energy, capturing the essence of the process in which I work intuitively with colour and aesthetics. The boldness of colour, dynamic brushwork and scale aims to amplify and transform the narrative of a flower’s symbolism: female grace and delicacy. I aim to redefine notions of floral imagery and celebrate femininity. The colours I use in my paintings are central to my practice, using a rich palette of pinks, reds, and contrasting greens. The serenity of green and the passion and intensity of its warmer counterparts assist in constructing meaning. Painting allows me to create realities that do not exist and intensify the vibrance and vitality of the subjects in my work. Within several of my works, I play with a dichotomy of structure and fluidity, incorporating a smaller viewfinder-like image rendered in finer detail. These focal points within the larger composition suggest clarity within chaos and act as a disruptive tool to counter the completeness of the image. The dynamic tension between realism and abstraction adds to my paintings by constructing depth and amplifying each element. In my exhibition, the selected works aim to reveal and spotlight these reimagined floral motifs as powerful symbols to explore themes of nature and femininity. The space has been curated so the work supports a feature wall presenting one of my largest works, truly allowing the viewer to immerse and step into the world of my paintings.
