I am a recent graduate with a BA (Hons) in Furniture and Product Design, driven by an interest in exploring the interaction of furniture and art. My work often blurs the line between functional design and artistic expression. I have a deep curiosity in materials, textures and forms.
Specialising in wood and whittling, I enjoy experimenting with innovative manufacturing techniques and sustainable materials. My designs are heavily influenced by nature, following the belief that originality stems from absorbing what is around you to shape the creative process. I am particularly interested in integrating new, eco-friendly materials into my work, pushing the boundaries of traditional design to create pieces which are not only pleasing to the eye but are environmentally responsible.
The Alis Armchair is a hand-carved, sculptural piece that blends furniture and art, inviting calmness and contemplation. Designed to invite tactile interaction, its unique focus lies in the carved underside of the seat, inspired by the Japanese Naguri technique. This detail encourages users to explore the chair beyond its visual appearance, particularly when handling the chair — picking it up, tucking themselves in, or exploring out of curiosity. Crafted from maple for its soft qualities and subtle colouring, the form of the chair is inspired by butterfly wings, offering wide, inviting armrests. Balancing function and form, the minimalist design highlights the connection between user and object, whilst showcasing the contrast of smooth and textured surfaces.
