Born in South Korea, Kyunga Kim studied industrial product design based on UX (user experience) through a bachelor's course at Korea University. After graduation, she worked as a designer who designed kitchen furniture according to the lifestyle of Koreans and studied the standard interior plan suitable for Korean culture from 2013 to 2020. Now her interest lies in the study of residential architecture that considers inhabitants' lives and traditional architectural elements. In the INSIDE program, she explores the space identity embedded in the environment and cultural background
This project examines the transformation of Korean apartment complexes from the 1970s to the present. These massive concrete complexes, once cherished homes, are being demolished for financial gain, resulting in community fragmentation. By tracing the memories of “apartment kids” who grew up in these pre-2000 apartments, this research seeks to uncover the hidden values of these old complexes. The aim is to identify their potential spatial qualities through drawing analysis and propose subtle interventions to restore the social and environmental ties, offering a new perspective on their significance to today’s Korean population.
