About

I am a 2024 graduate in Print Design and Textiles, with a passion for creating innovative and visually compelling patterns. My work is deeply rooted in sustainability, focusing on the use of eco-friendly materials and techniques. Through my designs, I aim to merge aesthetics with environmental responsibility, crafting textiles that are as kind to the planet as they are beautiful. Whether exploring traditional methods or experimenting with cutting-edge technologies, I am dedicated to pushing the boundaries of sustainable fashion and interiors gallery work in textile design.

This project delves into the serene beauty of meadows and marshes, showcasing the harmonious interplay of biodiversity within these vital ecosystems. Through textile design, capturing the vibrant rhythms of nature, inspired by the delicate flora and fauna that thrive in these environments. The prints in this collection reflect the rich textures and subtle colour palettes of meadows and marshes, aiming to evoke a sense of tranquility and connection to these often-overlooked landscapes. Each design is a tribute to the balance and diversity that these natural spaces embody, highlighting the need for their preservation. Credits to photographer Denisa ILie Model Georgia Richardson

My project on "Biodiversity in Textiles" focuses on the abstract of the ecosystems of meadows and marshes, emphasising the flora and natural elements found within these environments. This approach not only highlights the beauty of these habitats but also aligns with sustainable design practices. Project Concept: "Meadows and Marshes in Textiles" This project seeks to capture the diversity and subtle beauty of meadow and marsh ecosystems through hand-painted designs, sustainable material use, and innovative digital printing techniques. The project is grounded in an eco-conscious philosophy, with an emphasis on minimizing environmental impact and celebrating nature. Hand-Painted Textiles Inspired by Meadows and Marshes**: Flora-Focused Designs: The hand-painted elements of this project are inspired by the various plants, grasses, flowers, and water plants typically found in meadow and marsh ecosystems. You might depict elements like wildflowers, grasses, reeds, and focusing on the textures and colours that define these habitats. Naturalistic Style: The hand-painted designs capture the organic forms and delicate details of these plants, aiming to bring a sense of the natural world into the textile medium. This approach not only emphasises the diversity of plant life but also the importance of preserving these ecosystems. Use of Deadstock Fabrics Sustainable Material Choice: Continuing the theme of sustainability, the project uses deadstock fabrics, which are surplus materials that would otherwise go to waste. This choice reflects a commitment to reducing textile waste and making use of available resources. Harmony with Nature: The textures and natural feel of deadstock fabrics can complement the theme of meadows and marshes, as these materials often have a rustic or organic quality that aligns with the natural subject matter. Minimal Dye Usage The project minimises the use of synthetic dyes, opting instead for natural dyes when necessary. This could involve using plant-based dyes that reflect the colours of meadows and marshes soft greens, earthy browns, and gentle blues. Preserving Natural Beauty: By reducing dye usage, the natural texture and colour of the fabrics are allowed to shine, much like the subtle beauty of a meadow or marsh. Digital Printing on Fabric Translating Hand-Painted Designs to Textiles: After creating the initial hand-painted designs, I digitised the artworks for reproduction on fabric using digital printing technology. This process ensures that the intricate details of your hand-painted designs are preserved and can be replicated consistently across various fabrics. Scalability and Customisation**: Digital printing allows for the customisation of patterns and can easily scale the designs across different fabric types, which is especially useful when working with the varied textures of deadstock materials. Creativity and Environmental Storytelling Narrative Through Design: Each textile piece not only showcases the beauty of meadows and marshes but also tells a story about the importance of these ecosystems. The project aims to educate and raise awareness about the role of these habitats in biodiversity through the medium of textiles. Innovative Combination By combining traditional hand-painting techniques with modern digital printing, the project bridges the gap between artisanal craftsmanship and contemporary textile design, offering a fresh take on sustainable fashion and home decor. Outcome and Impact: The textiles produced in this project will be both artistically and environmentally significant. Each piece will serve as a visual representation of the biodiversity found in meadows and marshes, while also embodying sustainable practices in its creation. The project not only contributes to the field of textile design but also encourages a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the need to protect it. This project has the potential to resonate with consumers and designers alike, offering a thoughtful and aesthetically pleasing approach to textile design that honours the beauty of our planet’s ecosystems.
