I recently graduated from Nottingham Trent University in BA Product Design. I am passionate about sustainability, and I enjoy focusing on material exploration, particularly making use of natural waste materials and biomaterials. My designs are often inspired by nature, and my interest in art, each creation blends the aesthetic with a commitment to environmental consciousness. I am inspired by finding the beauty in waste!
This project was inspired by the potential of waste materials and the creative opportunities they offer. By making the material the focal point, WildCraft encourages conversation about the beauty and positivity that can arise from repurposing waste. WildCraft is a fully regenerative and circular at-home Eggshell Ceramic pottery kit, designed to promote guilt-free creativity. It allows users to craft sophisticated, decorative pieces using only natural materials; from the biodegradable Eggshell Ceramic to the vibrant natural dyes, without costing the earth. I collected waste eggshells from local cafes and a school kitchen to explore this material. It uses a natural binder derived from seaweed to ensure its durability but also biodegradability. WildCraft offers a glimmer of positivity amidst the current climate anxiety that many experience, encouraging a community of eco-conscious creatives and reminds us of the importance of reconnecting with nature, thus using nature as a palette. At the end of their natural life, each piece can be composted, completing the cycle of sustainability.
