I am a recent graduate from the University of Westminster where I studied MArch in Architecture. Orginally from Guernsey I initially studied architecture at the University of Liverpool before moving to London for my year in industry. Throughout my architectural studies I have developed a keen interest in innovative forms of adaptive reuse, of existing architecture, with a focus on the connection between contemporary and existing architectural typologies. My projects utilise low-tech/regional material palettes, creating interventions that are sensitive to their context yet architecturally impactful. This interest developed as a result of the challenges and increasing necessity to design alongside existing physical and social contexts and the fascinating creative outcomes of this process.
Across the South of France access to water is becoming increasingly political. Marseille’s civic swimming pools were once symbols of a golden era of municipal building but now many are desolate oases in spite of their continued essentiality. In response a citizen-led movement, based upon a Radical Municipalism, is forming to reclaim Piscine Luminy, one such complex bordering the city. They seek to establish a commune that redefines the poolside through a construction based activism involving, inhabiting, restoring and reimaging the site. With the aim of returning this once great civic space back to the people of Marseille.
