This collection is based on the colourful and vibrant Columbia Road Flower Market. This collection has been a labour of love, beginning as a series of recycled paper collages that I created to capture the energy, colour, and texture of the market. Each collage was meticulously layered to reflect the dynamic interplay of hues and forms that make Columbia Road so unique. These collages were then transformed into textiles, preserving the handcrafted feel while bringing the spirit of the market to life on fabric.
For my project titled “Two for a Tenner,” I created a life-sized display using paper cutouts and crepe paper flowers to simulate a vibrant flower stall. The scene featured an array of colorful, handcrafted flowers, giving the display an authentic and engaging market atmosphere.
This project was based on a live brief set by Hallmark, and I chose to design a range of greeting cards specifically for kids. My goal was to create cards that are both educational and entertaining, allowing children to engage independently, giving parents or guardians a welcome break from home-schooling during lockdown. Observing that Gods and Goddesses are part of the KS2 curriculum, I decided to focus on Roman Mythology to ensure the project connects with the historical significance of Bath. All the cards when they’re lined up together look like the front of a temple which is great for a puppet show and this could make the cards collector’s items, so they have to buy all 6 in order to create the temple.
The idea for my project came from talking to my grandparents. During lockdown, because we couldn’t see each other, we spoke a lot on the phone and zoom. The grannies seem to start every sentence with “When I was your age…” so I thought it would be fun to look back at their life, experiences and culture
