Designer and maker passionate about the regenerative capabilities of bio materials.
This project aims to increase ease of use and remove the "ick" factor associated with composting toilets. This is achieved through the use of a compostable bin made from mycelium, the ‘root network’ of fungi. Mycelium serves as a natural decomposer and binding agent, creating a biodegradable bucket that removes the need for secondary composting and handling of the organic waste. Our current waste treatment systems are linear and harmful, disrupting nutrient cycles and relying on synthetic fertilizers that damage ecosystems. By integrating a mycelium-based bin and composting, we can transform human waste into a valuable resource, fostering a sustainable, circular nutrient cycle.
