Dylan Kwok is a video game designer. His debut game, Going Up, is about controlling elevators, and is available to play on iOS.
In addition, he writes short stories, which have appeared in Daily Science Fiction, Uncharted, and Quarterly Literary Review Singapore, Singapore’s longest running literary magazine. His work has also appeared in The Best Asian Short Stories.
Going Up is a strategy game where you control groups of lifts in a skyscraper to deliver passengers before they lose their patience. Optimise elevator movement as you deal with a fussy cast of passengers—impatient CEOs, mean soldiers and confused tourists. There is no one solution to elevator optimisation: every stage will have its unique bottlenecks, passengers and problems. Can you keep people moving, or will they have to take the stairs? I designed this game as a response of frustration to the inefficiencies of the elevators on my campus, and proceeded to develop it as a final year project after positive reception from the faculty.
