About
Specialising in graphic design and image-making, I enjoy using experimental, process-driven, and inventive approaches toward image design. Observing consistency and intellect in the works of designer Chris Ashworth, and artist Sam Winton, brought about a fundamental shift in design thinking for me within the past year – that is to say, refinement is the key when it comes to abstraction and conceptual work in my opinion.
Originating from ideation and conceptualisation, I aim to
infuse authenticity into my art by creating a distinctive aesthetic, sometimes allowing obscurity to become the prominent expression. Utilising both analogue and digital tools, I create work that often implies textural and organic forms within a design or composition. Regarding viewer engagement, I aim to inspire, guide, and promote elevated perceptions and appreciation for art and designwith my work and efforts.
My process can be best described as experimental visual inquiry, and then I strive for cohesion and balance in my artwork or finished designs, achieving this through the use of formal qualities and principles of design: colour (or non-use of colour), repetition, and texture.
Research suggests that budget issues (due to inflation) and creative block (due to stagnancy) is problematic for people working in creative industries. This design aims to inspire visual creatives struggling with resourcefulness in their professional practices to add authenticity to, or aid progression in their creative work. Cothú is a book for creatives that inspires exploration of process–driven research. The content is the result of intuitively guided processes, self–reflection, and digital explorations. Utilising tools and materials readily available to the maker, Cothú represents the potentiality of using found materials, the immediate environment, and intuitively-led processes as initiation for further visual exploration.
