About

Ceramic artist Anastasiia Shmelkova explores the theme of post-apocalyptic landscapes and the impact of human presence on our planet in her latest body of work. Born in Russia and now living and studying in Israel at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Anastasiia’s personal experience as an immigrant has informed her artistic perspective.

Escapism serves as a psychological refuge from stress and anxiety, allowing individuals to temporarily detach from life's pressures. Human brains are pattern seeking machines that constantly process and produce information. Long and fragile porcelain folds of the sculptures are a physical manifestation of white noise, meaningless and soothing distraction from endless stream of stimuli and anxieties of the chaotic world. Project made entirely from porcelain and consists of 3 sets of objects: The Big Loop - H230 W450 L170 cm The Carriage of Thoughts - H205 W100 L80 cm Fine Thoughts - Various sizes, approximately H50 W45 L60 cm Pics by Daniel Abergel and Nikita Marshanov
