About

Anna (1997, Hungary) relates to herself and the world through visual storytelling, using it to explore questions and navigate various aspects of life. Her approach to photography isn't about discovering absolute truths. Instead, it's a means for her to find answers by exploring the collision of different realities. While she is mainly concerned with social issues, she also touches upon sensitive topics like family, relationships, the impacts of modern life, understanding life's meaning, and the fleeting nature of memory.

The Mist quietly spreads

We are connected, although we don’t walk the same path, we are not children of the same nation, yet we can relate to each other. It’s not so simple to just pick up the bag and move away from home in hopes of a better future. We must reckon with the consequences when we speak of the weight of leaving our families, of the unknown new environment, of the constantly lurking social and cultural differences, and not to mention the struggle of integration, of fitting in. Trá moved from Vietnam to Belgium and Maruf from Bangladesh to The Netherlands, both of them to Western Europe with the aspiration of a brighter tomorrow, into the often-mentioned “storehouse of opportunities.” In their own countries, they wouldn’t be able to achieve financial stability to support their families, themselves, to have a competitive position in the labor market, to build a secure future for their dreams, and later, upon acquiring citizenship, to benefit from free healthcare. I broke away from the life I had been accustomed to. I came to Belgium knowing I would be away from home, living alone in a completely unknown place, in a foreign country where I couldn’t even speak the mother language. But this experience led me to connect with people in the same shoes that I am in. I started building my project in Belgium around this unsteady state, this two-sided living situation where you can live by the bitterness and the beauty of hoping for a better future. I am working with Trá and Maruf as my subjects, and with their personal journey, I want to tell a story about what people go through emotionally while creating a home in a foreign country. 2023 – 2024 (ongoing) Belgium, The Netherlands, Hungary
