About
Xuechen Wang is a Jeweller and artist who specialises in making jewellery, utensils and body sculptures. Most of her works come from her observation and thinking about everything around her. She is keen on studying the cultural and material properties of materials existing in specific environments, and how they have interesting connections with people. Her ongoing projects deal with carpets, nature and space, and she hopes to engage in artistic exploration by creating a new metal expression. In the future, she will continue to make contemporary crafts and experiment with more art forms.
Our group’s project “the hush, the code, the sound” responds to themes of justice and misinformation. We are paying attention to the fact that minority groups in contemporary society are working hard to speak out for themselves, and they are fighting for more and more rights for themselves. This is a good phenomenon, but even so, we still cannot imagine the pressure they need to face and the past. injustice suffered. So we tried to collect these voices and go back in history to find their past locations and recreate their plight. Based on the identities of our group members, we broadly focused on queer and feminism. After sorting out a large amount of archival materials and first-hand research, we jointly completed an independent publication that is compact, logical and easy to read through poetry, interviews, reviews, illustrations and other forms suitable for paper media. （please contact me to get the full pdf.)
