‘The Garden of Pareidolia’ is a vibrant collection of botanical, floral, and illustrative pattern designs tailored for interior spaces, characterised by their rich colours, intricate details, and compelling narratives. My final collection draws inspiration from a short story that I created during the project's research phase. My creative journey began with literary and cinematic inspirations from childhood, ‘The Princess & the Pea’ by Hans Christian Andersen and the 1995 film ‘A Little Princess’ which sparked reflections on themes of class, perception, and imagination. Drawing from diverse sources—from the elegance of Arts & Crafts florals to the raw energy of punk lyrics—I sought to create designs that challenge conventional perceptions, blending classic floral motifs with a contemporary concept. With a focus on classical floral and botanical illustrations, I have drawn inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement whilst incorporating the concept of pareidolia, adding a unique dimension to my floral and botanical collections. Researching class and ‘Britishness,’ I have infused my work with social commentary, challenging traditional narratives surrounding monarchy and class systems and created surface designs that not only captivate aesthetically but also provoke thought.
