About

As a maker Nandi Rieks offers a different view on the world due to her culturally diverse background, her second bachelor in psychology and her life experiences. They provide her with a platform to relate to other people and awareness of which stories are important to tell and the best way to go about it. Within the professional field she has broad interests, next to film she enjoys many different forms of art. She make music, sketches, paintings and sculptures. Nandi is also a handy person, usually fixing things around the house, and finds this provides her with an advantage in the professional field, considering her many skills in different areas.Nandi finds representation very important, especially in media, because if people are never exposed to something or someone, then they will never understand each other, and never learn to understand. That’s why she wants to bring voices that have not been heard often to the foreground. Her aim is to inform people and give people hope or inspiration. However, with great power comes great responsibility, which is why she take ethics of film, especially documentary making, very seriously. Her aim is to help people realise that everyone has a different story and way of showing and dealing with their struggles. She hopes her audience can relate to the stories she tells and because of that feel less lonely and more compassionate towards others.

Running Out is a 16 min drama comedy short film. In the film two sisters are forced to face their differences when their car breaks down on their way to an important dinner. Main point: It’s a journey about dealing with unrealisticly high expectations and self-acceptance. Themes: Family, Love, Acceptance, Self-knowledge Synopsis: Exhausted yet trying, Grace sluggishly tackles her household chores, only to be interrupted by the arrival of her sister, Maeve. Unlike Grace's worn-out appearance, Maeve exudes an air of confidence that commands the room. As Maeve impatiently rushes Grace to leave, tensions simmer between the two sisters. Scrambling to get ready, Grace continuously missteps, highlighting her constant struggle to measure up. Even in the car Grace is continuously reminded of all the ways she never seems to be good enough. As her frustration with her sister builds the car runs out of gas. This time it’s not her fault, but Maeve’s. When Maeve attempts to deflect the blame, Grace finally snaps and gives her a piece of her mind. Then she hears why this dinner was so important. But as Grace confronts her sister, she learns why this dinner is so important.
