About
I am a 24 year old photographer, creating work around being a "third culture kid." I was raised in and lived my whole life in Namibia and through a variety of themes, I am challenging the concept of identity, culture, and a place of home. Constantly questioning how can I create art about myself and my culture when I am currently so far away from it and all of it that inspires me.
All of these photographs were taken while I was back home in Namibia visiting my family before I started my final year. There is a mixture of subjects such as landscape and candid people photography. This whole project is about exploring the ideas of identity, culture and the idea of home. I wanted to capture the fleeting moments spent with my family and the surroundings that raised me. Two of my main motivations to create meaningful photographs. At the beginning of this project, I had thousands of photographs to work from. I had my wildlife photographs along side my family photographs. Throughout the year I had experimented with different methods and techniques of showing these images, and which subjects worked well together. I have included some images of these experiments, which include a group exhibition, a book mock up, collage and digital contact sheets. These experiments concluded with 22 framed black and white photographs strictly of my family and surroundings of landscapes in my degree show.
