n-orr-N arr-N ~ An informal and affectionate local nickname used to refer to Northern Ireland. My final year project has been influenced by the urban environments and man-made structures of Northern Ireland - the place where I have lived my whole life. A combination of drawing techniques, including collaging, paper weaving and folding, to create a range of geometric patterns, have been used to influence my design and sampling process. My colour choices have initially been influenced by a collection of my dad's shirts, an optimistic comfort throughout my life, and have been further influenced through collage exploration and thread wraps. I have used a variety of both dark and light tones to reflect the troubled past that Northern Ireland has faced, but also the positive outlook for the future shared by communities across the country. A collection of hand-woven off loom samples have also been created to ensure an element of sustainability is present in my work. These pieces have been woven using selvedges and textile waste from mills across the UK, as well as scraps from my own weaving, ensuring these materials can have a second life and are not sent to landfill. Samples in this project have been woven on a small tapestry loom, table loom, dobby looms and jacquard (TC2) loom. This project is my love letter to the place I call home <3
