Slice to Tile explores techniques of cutting clay to integrate those in a setup to design and produce tiles. Three different tools were built to create various surface structures by cutting the material. Those tools are attached to a robot arm, which makes the movement to cut slices off an extrusion of clay. The tools are intentionally built with settings that can be changed to enable the creation of different structures by adjusting the tool. The tile design process is thus guided by the tool parameters. It consists of the interplay of three different components: the robot arm, a cutting tool and the material.
