About

Maja Xiu Li Chang is a Dutch-Australian fashion designer who creates vibrant and socially conscious collections that reflect her commitment to storytelling and curiosity. Skilled in pattern cutting, garment construction, and sustainable practices, Maja is passionate about design that blurs the lines between menswear and womenswear, challenging gendered aesthetics and inviting people to explore fluidity and inclusivity.

Crafted Discomfort confronts the tension between vulnerability and defence, exploring the quiet fear of genuine connection. Rooted in personal experience, the collection reflects the emotional risk of opening oneself to trust, where care and discomfort become inseparable. Anti-fit silhouettes emerge from the body in moments of unease; pleats, compression, and exaggerated shoulders translating gestures of protection and exposure. Drawing on 1980s power suiting, traditional codes of masculinity are reworked through upcycling, zero-waste pattern cutting, and precise tailoring, questioning strength as something rigid or impermeable. A shifting palette mirrors this duality, balancing restraint with moments of intensity. Through a gender-fluid lens, the work navigates the space between hardness and softness, stoicism and vulnerability, where masculinity’s armour meets femininity’s openness. In their convergence, edges soften, revealing that strength lies not in resistance, but in the courage to be seen.
