About
Luke Harris is a designer based in Bristol. He holds a first class degree in Product design technology from the University of the West of England and has experience in Product, Graphic, Motion, Branding and User interface design. From 2022/23 he spent 12 months working in London for both Pavegen [a design and tech startup focusing on energy generation through kinetic floor tiling] and Forpeople [a well-established global brand consultancy]. During this time he worked with brands such as Coca-Cola, Huawei, Logitech, Kia and more to develop both product and digital design work. Luke believes that strong design blends work from multiple disciplines while maintaining a consistent visual narrative.
An exploration of domestic utility usage through the lens of human-computer interaction Abano is a wall mounted design installation that functions to translate raw data into ambient experience. Changes in energy consumption drive tangible change to Abano’s form. Lower usage opens Abano while higher levels cause it to fold away. Drawing from research in behavioural psychology Abano operates on a positive reinforcement principle. Unlike existing smart meter displays, Abano rewards low consumption use rather than highlighting and shaming when levels are high.
