About

My name is Minjeong Kwon, and I was born and raised in South Korea. I studied spatial design at Ewha Womans University, and my theoretical ability was strengthened in the master’s program at the same school. Then, I worked as an interior designer for several years and completed a massive scale of splendid hotels and workplaces. Also, I worked as a graphic designer at a public enterprise in Sejong to deliver the power of design to the public. Working at a public enterprise made me think about my responsibility as a designer. Therefore, I moved to London in 2023 with a passion for learning sustainable and creative thinking in a progressive cultural environment that still values tradition in an artistic context. For a year, I honed the superMATTER platform’s educational ethos at the Royal College of Art and gained valuable experience in thinking through making. I could incorporate artificial intelligence into my work, crafting balanced and refreshing spaces.

A-Eye wellness Center

“How can light, space, and materials be used to improve the well-being of the office workers’ eyes in the local community?” The A-Eye Wellness Center is designed to enhance the well-being of people suffering from digital eye strain due to prolonged screen exposure. This project raises awareness about the pervasive digital eye strain affecting office workers. According to social research in 2021, 77% of UK adults suffer from digital eye strain. These symptoms include headaches, blurred vision, and dry eyes. I defined the user as being borderline disabled because no one has completely healthy eyes; especially those living in dense polluted cities including workers (of all disciplines) who are staring at blue light screens all day, their ‘natural eye functions’ are out of balance by these persistent factors. The aim is to mitigate the adverse effects of blue light and provide a restful environment for eye rejuvenation, by declaring: “Close your eyes from the screen, open your eyes to the new world.” I introduced AI into the design process and got inspiration about forms and materials related to eyes. As part of a human-centered design approach, I have woven spatial programming inspired by the eye’s structure and created a circulation map that maximizes the healing experience. The organic structure, materials, use of light, and pieces of furniture are meticulously designed to improve eye health.
