"Once you leave home, you can never go home again". This sentiment encapsulates the essence of our lives as travelers, visitors, immigrants, wanderers, passengers, lovers, bereaved souls, and human beings. Featuring seven artworks across mediums from time-based, installation, to site-specific, 離 departure Exhibition invites viewers to contemplate the profound relationships between home, places, things, people, and time. Drawing inspiration from the Taiwanese calendar and personal travel experiences, Ping employs site-specific, interactive script, and time-based video to evoke memories of the past and explore the narrative passage of time and place. Experimental and challenging, the exhibition delves into the complexities of human migration, underlying the experience of unfamiliar surroundings and the psychological sense of placelessness through audio-visual installations and mixed-media sculptures. Questioning this notion of "home", Ping's collected responses are documented and represented as artist's books that highlight the concept of departure and the search for belonging in life's journey. Reflecting on their journey to the USA and the different reasons and purposes behind immigration, Ping interviewed five families who have entered new environments. The resulting comprehensive documentary photography offers a poignant portrayal of the image of home. Lastly, by inviting the audience to contribute to a map of origin, each artwork serves as a testament to the diverse interpretations of leaving as a way of living.
