GRAND JURY PRIZE
Annika KIIDRON – Estonian Academy of Arts, Estonia
A modern-day fairy tale, a romantic-looking project in which craftsmanship plays the role of Prince Charming. Appreciating true know-hows, and keeping them alive in the face of today's constraints and enjoyments. Admiring the meticulousness of work done by hand, and focusing awareness on the beauty in the time it takes to make a product. An idea of restoring forgotten pieces in sensitive, digitized versions, bringing them to the forefront to create new narratives. "Give Me My Fairytale" is an ingenious collection of embroidered tapestries, reassembled in a contemporary pixel style for a result that's both captivating and offbeat. A perfect combination of yesteryear visuals and contemporary styling. An enchanting project, an updated "Edward Scissorhands", where authenticity rebels and finds its place in the modern era.
IMAGINATION PRIZE
Jifang ZHANG – Nottingham Trent University, UK
Knowing how to expertly combine the richness and specificities of diverse and varied materials. To combine traditional and high-tech techniques, fusing metal with plastic, knits or even 3D beads. "The Connection between Depression and Textile Art" takes an experimental approach that underlines the importance of textile choices in designs, even how raw material can play a therapeutic role. Textile sculptures and installations in the form of intriguing, almost disturbing portraits play on precious and sometimes violent protuberances. Faces in which to hide, immerse and reveal oneself.
INTERIORS PRIZE
Netta GETTA – Shenkar, Israel
Inspired by the very core of cities, buildings and structures, a dive into urban construction. A focal point of all architectural building: the grid, emptiness and fullness, space and matter, rigidity and movement. A parallel drawn between urban structures and textile constructions, the union between the raw heaviness of concrete and the agility of fabrics. "About Grid - When Textile and Concrete Meet on the Grid" is an exploration of new textures and new visuals, textile marked by concrete construction. An examination compounding the basic qualities of each element, where concrete gives strength to fabric and fabric serves as a reinforcement for concrete. Resolutely supple and malleable textile grids that update rawness, and give concrete new sensitive properties.
MATERIALS INNOVATION PRIZE
Elisa DEFOSSEZ – Aalto University, Finland
The notions of well-being, protection and eco-design are heightened, and showcase a common kindness. A need expressed in the subtlety of colors and textures, reflecting the importance of materiality and touch. "Nukumori" expresses this sentiment through textile research explored through a collection of elaborated surfaces and extravagant volumes, all delicately cut and reassembled. Colors are inspired by the Finnish countryside, the melancholic atmosphere of its forests, with Tencel, wool, foam and cotton blends. Organic, generous shapes and combinations that echo the concept of acoustic walls to create warm and welcoming cocoons overshadowed by interference noise. Vibrating modules to soothe everyday life and bring a reassuring and contemporary comfort.
Congrats to the 20 shortlisted graduates!
