MACTAC GRAPHICS BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS TAKE HACKNEY COMPETITION

UPDATE!! The Winner of the Bright Young Things Take Hackney Competition is Linea Matei from Konstfack!!! Seven outstanding finalists from a field of 330 have been selected in the Bright Young Things Take Hackney graphic design competition, sponsored by Mactac in Europe in collaboration with Arts Thread. The shortlisted seven finalists will now travel to London for the next stage of the competition, which will culminate in the winner’s work being exhibited in a towering display at Hackney Walk, a luxury retail destination in East London. The finalists are Karen Sung (Royal College of Art), Ana Carolina (Central Saint Martins UAL), Melanie Edwards (University of Leeds), Linea Matei (Konstfack University College of Arts Crafts and Design), Or Eidelman (Shenkar College), Eva Davidova (Central Saint Martins UAL), Ester Alonso (Leeds Arts University). ---------------------------------------------- This competition aims to discover Europe's most forward thinking student/graduate who is able to combine design creativity with application consideration to create high impact visual branding for wall graphics. We are looking to you for your unique view on how to energise and reinvigorate exterior retail walls to both represent the brand story and to enhance the product features of Mactac graphic materials. It is an unique opportunity to have your designs magnified and potentially seen by millions.... ABOUT MACTAC For over fifty years, Mactac Europe has been creating innovative graphic materials that provide a canvas for visually stunning designs across many different decoration and graphic applications, including architecture and transportation. For more information please visit: mactacgraphics.eu THE BRIEF The “Competition” consists of two phases: PHASE ONE: We would like you to upload your 2D artwork/visual that will look amazing on an exterior wall two stories high in a prime retail location where there is the potential for it to be seen by millions of people whether by foot or by train. Creativity in colour is a really important element for this brief! In February 2018, six projects will be shortlisted from Phase One to enter into the second phase of the competition, where the shortlisted winners will work with the Mactac Europe’s design and innovation team as well as the team behind one of Europe's most regenerative retail opportunities, Hackney Walk, London, UK. Hackney Walk is London's Luxury Outlet District. PHASE TWO: 6 shortlisted entrants from phase one will travel to London (expenses paid - see terms and conditions) to work with the Mactac Europe’s design and innovation team, as well as the team at Hackney Walk. During this one-day workshop the candidates will learn more about the Mactac products and application, and they will be given a briefing for the second phase design component. The contestants will then have 6 weeks to respond to the design brief. The winner of phase two will then have their work displayed in the prime retail location and gain global PR coverage. The shortlisted finalists will also be displayed on the Mactac Europe booth at FESPA 2018 which takes place in Berlin on the 15th - 18th May 2018. FESPA 2018 is the largest International trade show for large format printing. Encompassing screen, digital and textile print, the exhibition will see more than 700 exhibiting brands take to Berlin, Germany. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS Open to 2017 & 2016 graduate artists/designers and students studying art and design in Europe (includes Turkey, Cyprus, Russia, Ukraine, Israel). The competition is not open to students and graduates studying outside of Europe, employed by a company within art and design or have any family members employed by Avery Dennison. THE PRIZE
