My graduate collection for fashion bachelor degree was my chance to explore my identity and reinterpret my perspective creatively. Delivering the theme of self-love and acceptance to who I, or who one is in a wider scope, I had a chance to mix my insecurity and personal experience with my heritage by exploring the aspect of my culture that I am uniquely familiar in.
Sapience Veneer is my graduate collection for my undergraduate studies at ECA. The collection explores a wide scope of concepts, from traditional Korean folk religion (Mu-soak) to my personal journey of overcoming insecurities related to my skin. It draws parallel between the shamanic figures of Mu-soak who are "chosen" by god to serve the role regardless of their own will, and my own journey of overcoming skin insecurities which also came to me against my will. Sapience Veneer delivers a message about self-acceptance and love. Sheer, iridescent fabrics like organza act as a second skin, not to conceal, but to reveal. They catch the light, creating a shimmering, almost ethereal shell that represents the beautiful, fragile layer one must break through on the journey to self-acceptance. By exploring fashion’s role as a “cover” and examining how we dress to communicate our ideal selves with others, the collection showcases a 6 look journey that uses sculptural metal and draped soft accessories and accessorizing garments as key statement while maintaining the wearable aspect of RTW fashion.
