I'm Yasa Wahab, an industrial designer based in Dubai with a focus on furniture. I graduated from OCAD University and studied furniture at FIDI Florence under Leonardo Rossano. Having grown up across seven countries, my practice sits at the intersection of cultural identity and furniture design. Craft traditions, design aesthetics, all of which to create objects that carry a sense of place and story - just like us all. I'm drawn to work that balances functional clarity with cultural depth, and I'm currently building out a portfolio of furniture and object projects ahead of entering the industry.
Juke is a record player table inspired by the 1950s jukebox. The main form was created by bending a single sheet of plywood using kerf cutting, finished with a walnut veneer. A solid maple tambour door slides open and closed to reveal a speaker for the record player, fitted with a custom sand-cast bronze handle shaped like a gramophone horn. Below, a cabinet stores the records; built from slats clamped together and shaped using an angle-grinder into a wave pattern reminiscent of piano keys. Together, these elements draw on the story of the jukebox and music, reimagining it as something both modern and retro. !!!WATCH THE VIDEOS for the concept and creative process!!!
