Violet Edwards is a mixed-media textile designer specialising in 3D manipulation, embroidery, and embellishment for Haute Couture catwalk fashion. Violet’s inspiration stems from a curiosity of the otherworldly and unique elements of the natural world. She uses this inspiration to create collaged and 3D drawings experimenting with composition and form throughout her design process. Her work incorporates energetic colour palettes, resulting in innovative and inventive designs. Exploring exciting technique combinations, Violet creates highly intricate, tactile, and bold designs, utilising her skills to create highly expressive and refined collections. Violet enjoys experimenting with unconventional materials, pushing the boundaries of textile design to create one-of-a-kind designs.
Bioluminescence is a textile collection designed for Spring/Summer 2027 Haute Couture catwalk fashion. ‘Bio’ suited my design ideas and connected with the physical form of coral; I imagined the movement live coral makes underwater and wanted to bring that to life within my collection. ‘Luminescence’ inspired my choice of colours; I chose vibrant, bright and illuminous colours because I wanted my collection to come alive. This collection has unique features and shapes which has the potential to be innovative, influential and possibly shape textile industries. My collection captures the essence of bioluminescence by combining colour, texture, and form to create a vibrant and cohesive collection. I used a combination of lightweight fabrics to imitate a flow or movement; this was necessary as this effect needed to be emulated on the catwalk. I used neoprene and acrylic to create structure and an organic form; these materials allowed my designs to look and feel natural. Handmade sequins and glow in the dark beads added aspects of boldness, delicacy and tactility, details that allowed my collection to be valued as Haute Couture. The composition and refinement of my collection is communicating a vivid representation of otherworldly forms. Inspired by the vibrancy of coral reefs, I used my technical skills such as 3D manipulation, fabric dying, construction, embroidery and embellishment to bring this concept to life. I gradually refined my skills; my collection taught me how to master each technique due to complex detail. Adding customary details such as hidden magnets also allowed me to prove that my designs are multi-functional. Spreading awareness of the dangers the ocean faces and the beauty of the ocean when left to thrive. I ensured that my practice remained sustainable and ethical by using recycled threads, deadstock materials where possible and self-constructed additions such as handmaking sequins. These solutions proves that collection was forward thinking.

The Tropic of Kernow is inspired by memories of summers spent in Cornwall, encapsulating influences from flora, fauna, and fruits shaped by the exotic subtropical climate. The collection explores an energetic pastel colour palette, creating a range of elegant and opulent designs for Spring/Summer 2027. I have created these samples using refined and detailed techniques including embroidery, stitch, and 3D manipulation.
