About
My name is Valentina Derudi and I study fashion design at IUAD. Since I was a child I have experimented with needle and thread, but I have always considered it a secondary passion, until I decided to get involved and undertake a course of study in fashion design, where my previous studies as a surveyor were the foundations. I've always thought that life was like a game: it's not always a question of holding good cards in your hand but, sometimes, knowing how to play well a disadvantageous hand. Pattern-making and event organization have become my passion: being able to combine design and the technical study of the various elements is the hand I want to play in this game called life.
In my collections I always try to put a "little piece" of mine, partly to identify myself and partly in the hope that other "misunderstood" people no longer feel alone.
The collection presented at FGI23 represents everyone's "pieces" through those of the designer. The collection entitled Saudade is in fact inspired by people. In particular to all those who have had to face moments of suffering in life, hiding their pain without realizing how much strength and beauty they manage to radiate. The outfits, each in a different way, represent the pain of the soul in their positive meaning, an almost oxymoronic concept, concretized by the contrast of "bulky" volumes to "floating" fabrics and by the monochrome of black dazzled by saturated colors. The idea was born from a thought, which gave rise to others, looking at the people around us, known and unknown. Tired eyes, lost looks, surviving smiles, an unexpected word of comfort, small but attentive gestures... these are just some of the signs that make it clear how much and how a person has suffered throughout life, it is precisely those details that radiate a light one in a kind. Strength, delicacy, fragility, small details, protection and fear: Saudade is being extraordinarily human.
