About
Womenswear Fashion Knit
Inspired by the contrasts in nature, Delicate Decay is built upon elements representing different layers of the collection. Ice and snow forms the foundational layers, symbolising fragility and light. The shadows of water and stains of mud bring in an element of mess to reflect instability and disruption. Plants become the final layer, representing regeneration, resilience, and protection. My process of creating these fabrics is intuitive and experimental, allowing me to play freely with materials and techniques throughout development. I distressed denim scraps: pulling the threads to knit with, puncturing onto domestic machine and hand embroidery. I worked with dyes, bleach, felting, cornstarch to stiffen knits. The use of natural fibres such as cotton with synthetic yarns like polyester became essential in developing contrasting textures. I embrace the unpredictable ways of mother nature, where surfaces naturally distort, fade, and transform. It is a necessity for myself to let go of control when developing fabric's. I can be my most creative self, allowing the process to unfold. I then can refine and curate my work, revealing the beauty within contrast and imperfection.
