About
My name is Soňa Pichňová, and I am a fashion designer from Slovakia, currently completing my Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Netherlands.
My work explores femininity as something constructed, performed, and shaped by cultural and personal experience. Drawing from my upbringing in Slovakia and my background in classical ballet, I am interested in the tension between discipline and effortlessness, restriction and freedom, and the ways these contradictions can be translated through the body and clothing.
Silhouette and materiality are central to my design process. I often work with collage and personal visual references to develop shapes that extend, distort, or subtly restrict the body. Contrasting materials allow me to further explore these tensions, combining softness, draping, and transparency with sharper, more synthetic surfaces. Through this approach, I aim to create garments that balance delicacy with provocation, using fashion as a way to question familiar ideas of femininity and how they are formed.
“DIVINE” explores the artificial nature of femininity, drawing from my background in classical ballet and upbringing in Slovakia. The collection examines how femininity is shaped through discipline and repetition while appearing effortless and natural. Silhouettes developed from collaged childhood bird illustrations extend, distort, and subtly restrict the body, echoing ballet’s concealed physical discipline. Soft tulles, glossy satins, and draped knitwear contrast with black synthetics, vinyl, and high-shine surfaces. Inspired by the unapologetic femininity of Divine, the collection presents femininity not as innate, but as something consciously constructed and performed.
