About
lin Liu is a London-based interdisciplinary artist working across installation, glass, sound and interactive technologies. Her practice explores relationships between humans, plants and material environments, often beginning with everyday rituals and sensory experience.
Combining research with material experimentation, she works with glass, wood, textiles, plants, sensors and sound to create situations in which human and more-than-human participants can affect one another. Her recent work focuses on tea as both a social ritual and a multispecies encounter, exploring how familiar acts of gathering, serving and sharing can become ways of noticing other forms of presence and agency.
The Space Breathes Back is an interactive installation that reimagines tea ritual as a multispecies encounter. Drawing on tea culture, plant sensing and material experimentation, the work brings together handmade glass tea objects, wood, tea-dyed textiles, jute, living plants, sound and responsive technology. Plant bio-signals are translated into sound, while a presence sensor changes the soundscape as visitors enter and leave the space. Rather than treating plants as decoration, the installation asks how ritual might become a way of attending to other forms of presence, agency and communication, creating an intimate environment shaped by human, plant and material participants.
