Sebald van der Waal (29) was born in Amsterdam.
After an intensive international trajectory in academic philosophy at the University of Amsterdam, the Freie Universität Berlin and the Université Paris VIII, he chose to pursuit his true passion at KASK School of Arts Ghent: cinema.
The themes that interested him in philosophy (the relationship between language, art and the world) continue to inspire his films.
His short film New City was selected for Film Fest Ghent 2025 and International Short Film Festival Leuven.
Even silence has rhythm. "New Silence" is a rhythmic portrait of the search for connection between a reclusive drummer and his sister. Overwhelmed by the rumbling vibrations of a fragmented winter landscape, the tormented brother refuses to speak.
