About

Rose focuses on weaving, texture, and the sensory qualities of cloth, exploring how textiles can invite touch and deepen material connection. She dyes her own yarns, primarily British wool, allowing a considered and intuitive approach to colour and composition. Alongside this, her experience working in a care home since the age of 17 has shaped an ongoing interest in how textiles can support wellbeing. Over the past four years, she has explored how cloth can offer comfort through tactility, familiarity, and sensory engagement. Her work brings together visual richness and material sensitivity to create woven textiles that extend beyond surface aesthetics, functioning as emotionally responsive objects within care and interior contexts.

Beyond the Window explores the connection between memory, sensory experience, and well-being through woven textiles. Inspired by observations of British gardens and the emotional significance of familiar spaces, the project considers how textiles can offer comfort, stimulation, and moments of reflection. Through hand-dyed British wool, tactile structures, and layered woven surfaces, the collection encourages touch and interaction. Influenced by experiences facilitating workshops for people living with dementia at Westergate House and Central Saint Martins, the work investigates weaving as both a sensory and therapeutic process. Having worked in a care home from a young age, I have witnessed how limited access to the outdoors, particularly for those who are bed-bound or living with dementia, can make surroundings feel unfamiliar and disconnected. Through varied textures and rhythmic patterns, the project aims to evoke calmness, curiosity, and a sense of connection to the outside world.
