Salomé: A leather slashed exploration of female power
This collection was inspired by the eponymous character, a woman of history whose interpretation evolved from an insignificant figure in the Bible into a woman of complexity and depth. My collection seeks to explore the nuanced nature of female power and beauty. The way Salome has been depicted throughout history reflects society's changing views of women in different eras. In our time, how do we interpret Salome? Can we appreciate her contradictory traits and acknowledge her violence without reducing her to a sexualized, demonized caricature? I chose faux leather and the slashing technique to create a collection that challenges traditional norms. I wanted to meld hard materials into soft shapes that embrace the body, yet maintain beautiful structures that change with every movement. Every garment in this collection embraces the contrast of feminine and hard, creating an allure that commands attention. I hope that when you witness my collection, you see the possibilities of beauty and strength that we, as women, embody. I invite you to indulge in the allure of Salomé.
