Channi is a robust, affordable, and rapidly deployable water-based filtration system for capturing particulate matter emissions from solid fuel burning stoves. Outdoor grilling practices often lack proper air filtration systems, leading to harmful emissions in urban air. The absence of products tailored for emission capture from outdoor solid fuel stoves is a critical issue. The culmination of an extensive ethnographic co-design process, Channi is a novel outdoor air filtration device that guarantees an affordable panacea for the end user, with tangible impact to reduce air pollution in developing countries, exacerbated due to the widespread use of solid fuels for cooking.
Epicue is a low cost heat stress management solution for workers in high heat environments via continuous epifluidic sweat monitoring. Powered by sweat, it provides real-time cues about heat stress levels, prompting informed actions. As global temperatures surge, workers, especially in construction, face heightened heat-related risks. These risks endanger lives and also elevate project costs. Conceptualised and developed as a team project with Selene Sarı, Orestis Neokleous and Seb Tam; we discovered the absence of an affordable, universally-comprehensible personal heat monitoring tool tailored for this vast demographic.
