Olivia Rixon is a recent BA (Hons) Fashion graduate from Edinburgh College of Art, specialising in womenswear, tailoring and garment construction. Her graduate collection asks: whatwould tailoring be if it originated from womenswear? Reconsidering traditional tailoring through a female perspective, the collection draws on the inherited thimble of her late grandmother, a tailor, alongside the suffragette history of Olivia’s hometown. These personal and local histories explore how memory, craft and inheritance can shape a contemporary understanding of heritage. Traditional tailoring techniques are combined with innovative materials, including silk abaca and felted knitwear, to create sculptural silhouettes that challenge conventional ideas of structure. Olivia’s practice brings together technical craftsmanship, material exploration and personal storytelling to create contemporary womenswear rooted in heritage while looking towards its future.
This AW26/27 womenswear collection explores tailoring, material innovation and the reinterpretation of heritage through a female perspective. Questioning, what would tailoring be if derived from womenswear? The collection is inspired by the inherited thimble of the designer’s grandmother, a tailor, alongside the suffragette history of her hometown. These influences consider how memory, material inheritance and female agency can shape contemporary design. Through sculptural silhouettes and innovative textiles, including silk abaca and felted knitwear, the collection challenges conventional ideas of tailoring, exploring structure, tactility and craftsmanship. Garments combine technical precision with thoughtful storytelling to create contemporary womenswear that honours the past while imagining new possibilities for its future.
