I am a Graduate Fashion Design student, specialising in print and pattern cutting.
The title of my Final Major Project is “You’re never alone with your own shadow”. I believe it is important to be independent and self-sufficient though it can feel lonely at times, however with the sense of your shadow around you never actually feel alone and feel as if you have company sitting with you at a café or walking along side you. What helps me feel confident being independent is wearing a jacket or a coat. The two main jackets I wear are a trench coat and a leather jacket. Two staple, timeless classic items that are always in trend. I wanted to make a leather jacket that wasn’t made from leather but made from the opposing garment (trench coat) fabric, Gabardine. Using Deadstock Gabardine. Experimenting with the print technique Trompe L’oiel printing my own concept imagery of leather onto the fabric. Finding an alternative way to create a leather jacket out of high-quality materials, that would otherwise be considered useless, this project will help to reduce the percentage of raw material production.
