Artist and jewelry creator working in silver and sustainable materials. I see, get to know and try to understand the world through my hands. I also use my hands as tools to make a difference, to make a change. Change and refine materials, explore and create possibilities. They are my language and the material is often my outset.
Through animalistic material and old crafting techniques I have investigated the relationship between human and nonhuman animals. A complex and dissonant relationship influenced by hierarchies amongst species. A disturbed balance with consequences for the ecosystem. The material was provided to me by a huntsman. Parts of animal bodies considered to be waste that I challenged myself not to turn down. I did not pull the trigger, cannot make them live again, but feel a strong wish to show my deepest respect.
In my exam project I have chosen to work with byproducts from the fish industry. The methods I have used are grounded in a long but nearly forgotten tradition. My material of choise is based on a wish to highlight a problem in our marine ecosystem. It also includes the fascination of which elements that affect our attitude towards a material. I would also like to treasure a life once lived. I want to point out the importance of making the most of what we harvest. I want to give my refined material a voice. To choose jewelry as a method is, according to me, to challenge how refined something can be. Would you consider having fish waste around your neck?
