Mai Do is a Germany-based visual artist and photographer whose work explores how identity is constructed and performed through image-making. Her practice moves between photography, editorial work, interactive media, and AI-assisted tools, seen as systems that shape visibility, desire, belonging, and self-perception. Through her images and installations, Do reflects on the moments before and around representation: how people prepare to be seen, how technologies interpret them, and how identity is negotiated through the act of being made visible.
Every Weekend, Our Attic Becomes Vietnam follows my parents and the Vietnamese community around them in Saxony-Anhalt, as they transform an attic into a small livestream studio each weekend. Through Vietnamese songs, language, greetings and shared time on Facebook, the space becomes a temporary place of connection and cultural memory. The work focuses not only on the performances, but also on the preparation, technology, repetition, care and invisible labor that make them possible. Moving between domestic space and digital stage, family history and collective memory, the project explores how belonging is created across distance and how culture can be actively sustained, shared and kept alive.
