I'm Lucy and I've graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) at the University of Bolton in Textiles and Surface Design. I have a love for drawing and painting and watching the process turn into the final outcome through digital paintwork or using traditional print methods. A lot of my inspiration for my drawings comes from my own photography, in which nature and architecture are main focal points for me. I have had previous industry engagement working with companies such as M&S and Edinburgh Weavers, gaining insightful feedback which I always find that this helps to progress my work even further. I am always up for a challenge!
'Stopfordian Structures’ is a celebration of all the wonderful aspects of Stockport and how it is having a resurgence becoming one of the greatest places in Manchester to live. Looking at iconic buildings from Stockport such as the Plaza, Genting Casino, the Town Hall, Market Hall and heritage motifs with the underbanks from primary research. The inclusion of floral shapes brings a balance of natural forms against the architectural and geometrics. A range of medias were used from gouache painting to flocking and foiling with a screen through to digital editing, changing colours to meet current trends. The collection is made up of two strands. The first celebrates iconic motifs for a communal space such as the foyer or on each floor of the lifts. The second is for private residential spaces and features more abstracted geometric patterns. The two collections speak to each other through their use of colour and shape creating patterns with a shared narrative including window design repeats taken from line drawings of the Town Hall. ‘Stopfordian Structures’ features designs for curtains, cushions, lampshades, upholstery, and wallpaper. Regarding previous industry engagement, Lucy has worked on a live brief with Edinburgh Weavers creating artwork and designs for their new collections.
