Lawrence Peter is a Visual Artist based in Dublin, Ireland. He completed his University Certificate in Visual Arts Practice (VAP) at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in March 2025. His painting style is contemporary figurative open impressionism, and his preferred medium is oil. He draws inspiration from the daily lives of people in dynamic settings and creates narratives that seek to evoke emotions of nostalgia, serenity, and despair. He is influenced by contemporary painters such as Victoria Crowe, David Chinyama, Jane French, and Erin Hanson.
Held Together By Her is an exploration of women, within intimate, often overlooked sanctuaries of domestic life, and their significance in our lives. Through the medium of oil, I seek to capture the poetry of ordinary moments - their interaction with each other and surrounding personal belongings within domestic settings. This fascination is deeply rooted in my family's story. My mother taught herself to sew long before I was born. One evening, she proudly presented a handmade pair of shorts for my brother - an act of love carefully stitched into fabric. When my father, a cook at the time, returned home and saw her creation, he took it as a challenge. Before long, the rhythm of sewing became part of our family’s legacy. What began as a simple stitch of curiosity became my father’s craft, later passed down to my brother. It is this thread - of care, of creation, of quiet power - that has inspired this project. Women bring life in the spaces they inhabit. This project is an invitation to step inside these private worlds, to witness the unspoken strength, tenderness, and beauty that reside in the everyday. Throughout the series, recurring motifs such as a vase with a plant, a sofa, and women holding or folding clothes serve as symbols of comfort, beauty, and the quiet rituals that shape everyday life.
