With a focus on materiality and imperfect beauty, he combines traditional metalworking techniques with the art of carving to create usable objects of intrigue.
He is deeply inspired by the aesthetic philosophy of wabi sabi which influences everything from choosing a material, to the process of creating and his outlook on “finished” pieces. Working mainly with organic materials and recycled metals, he opens up the discussion on material sustainability.
When carving, he likes taking inspiration from not only the flow of the material, but also folklore and nature to guide the function and motives of the piece.
A material exploration in which the structure and flow of organic materials guide the creative process. By approaching the work as a dialogue between the maker and the material, I aim to bring out the most of the material while also furthering my own knowledge of it. I have worked intensively with bamboo, antler, and a conch shell, focusing on one material at a time to explore their unique structures and possibilities. The work has resulted in functional objects such as flutes, necklaces, a ring, and a brooch, all created with the natural flow of the materials as their starting point.
